Frohe Weihnachten
Over here in Germany we celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve, Heiliger Abend = Holy Evening, (24th) at night. Usually our family goes to church at 17:00. After the service we walk home starting the festivities with a glass of champagne (German: Sekt), do some fun stuff like making music with our old instruments from those times ... then we unpack the presents. You can see them under the tree. When the excitement is over we have a meal which in my family is Swiss Raclette. We sit together until far after midnight, just our family. The next day which we call 1st Christmas day - 1. Weihnachtsfeiertag we have the main meal, in Germany traditionally Goose or Turkey with the wider family, either we go there or they come to us. Then we have a 2nd Weihnachtsfeiertag 26th with family and friends a bit less formal.
...... And friends all over the world 3 days off work !!! paid!
Wishing you all a wonderful time wherever you are, whatever you believe in!
Your friend Gina from Germany
